The Tumbling Lilac Tree Falls
This garden design in Carlisle has transformed a flat neglected corner to a stunning tumbling split stream spilling into a beached pond. It's an example of how such a small space can become full of interest and mesmerising sights, and all in the space of just two weeks!

A key early decision was to not remove an overhanging lilac tree and to integrate it within the overall garden design. It's given the split tumbling stream that authentic look of running through the trees as in nature and provided the starting point for the planting scheme to work from.

The planting scheme surrounding the stream and throughout the rockery will mature and spread over time and the integrated gravel patio area with swing sweat provides the perfect place to watch it all unfold. A wonderful start to the 2019 summer projects and again the ideal inspiration for bringing any size space to life with a water garden design.
Planting up!
We're particularly fond of the planting scheme in this project. In a limited space we've included a great sweep of shrubs, perennials, alpines and aquatic plants.
Take this picture of the stream waterfall entrance for example. The Iris' provide a stunning colour contrast to the neutral stream rock, whilst their height helps soften the rock too. The Persicaria in the far right corner will soon be providing lush green ground coverage with pink bottle brush flowers over the late summer months. Finally the impactful pink burst of colour close to the stream is given by our regular favourites Armeria.
